The Secret Behind Fifth & Cherry

Committing to creating a truly superior product comes with some special benefits that might not be obvious. One of those benefits is the ability to be completely transparent about what we do. It’s one of the things we really enjoy about running Fifth & Cherry.

There’s something deeply satisfying about running a business where you feel like you have nothing to hide. And really, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

We’re confident that you’ve never felt anything like one of our cutting boards. Our construction and finish are unparalleled and we’re not afraid to speak the truth to what has become a commoditized, soulless, machine-made industry.
If you ask someone what makes one cutting board better than another, most of the time they’ll probably say “the material.” By which they probably mean: “Wood is better than plastic.”

But wooden cutting boards are not all the same. Unlike the disposable, mass-produced boards you’ll find in most stores and on most websites, Fifth & Cherry cutting boards are handcrafted from the highest quality materials.

And because we’re so committed to using the absolute best materials and the most painstaking processes, Fifth & Cherry cutting boards provide more durability, safety, functionality, and beauty than the boards currently sold by other suppliers.
It takes 28 steps to craft one of our cutting boards. Yet in truth, it’s the following 7 key traits that distinguish a Fifth & Cherry cutting board from everything else on the market.

End Grain Construction
End grain wood boards take more work to create but are self-healing -- making them more durable, better for your knives, and more sanitary.

Staggered for Strength
Varying block lengths and staggered seams make our boards stronger, more durable, and resistant to warping and delamination.

American Black Cherry Wood
The ideal cutting surface: closed grain hardwood, free of toxins, and safe for contact with food. The perfect density to create a long-lasting board that is kind to your knives.

Steel Reinforced
Each board is reinforced with steel pins to increase stability and prevent separation.

Serialization
Every Fifth & Cherry board is given its own unique serial number, certifying that it is truly one of a kind, and can be registered to trace the board's history.

Antibacterial
Bacteria need water to grow. Wood absorbs water, binding it to the fibers as it dries so that bacteria cannot use it to grow. As a result, bacteria die within minutes. Cherry wood also contains natural antimicrobial compounds.

Unmatched Service
Each of our boards includes free Lifetime Refinishing by our expert craftsmen.

We really cherish the ability to be open and transparent about what we do, and love letting people in on the “secret” of what makes Fifth & Cherry cutting boards different. In fact, we don’t want it to be a secret at all.

If you’d like a board for yourself or have a gifting occasion coming up, we would appreciate your consideration.
