We’ve been blessed to meet some really amazing people along our Fifth & Cherry journey, and as we have become more immersed in the BBQ community the three ladies below are no exception. We have been amazed and inspired by their creativity, perseverance, the depth and breadth of their culinary skills, and their entrepreneurial spirit. We’ve had the great pleasure to get to know and work with Tina Cannon, Jessica Sessions and Shannon Morgan over the past couple of years and we hope that they inspire you as much as they have us.
World Food Champion, American BBQ Showdown Champion, and Georgia State BBQ Champion, Tina Cannon of Tina Cannon Cooks is blazing a trail across the barbecue community. Classically trained in the culinary arts and self-trained in the barbecue arts, Tina has won hundreds of awards for her amazing food.
A member of the Big Green Egg Pro Team and a self-proclaimed “Pearly Girl”, often wearing her signature string of pearls and pink lips, Tina is not afraid to get her hands dirty and will take on the challenge of perfecting any cooking method from sous vide duck and poached lobster tails to award winning smoked brisket and ribs. A big welcoming personality with a friendly “hey y’all”, Tina is 100% genuine and a great resource for tips and recipes.
Jessica Sessions, along with her husband Chad, are making their American Dream a reality with Smoke Sessions Barbecue! From a flatbed trailer on which they built their first food truck and a single smoke pit in 2016, to the grand opening of their first brick and mortar restaurant last week, Jessica embodies the entrepreneurial spirit: she is not just a dreamer, she is a doer.
Taking the scary leap to quit her job to help build Smoke Sessions started to pay off after just one year when the world-famous BBQ editor of Texas Monthly raved about their BBQ in this must-read review! Chad and Jessica produce some of the finest BBQ you’ll ever taste and Jessica’s behind-the-scenes efforts in running the business and their social media, have produced a loyal following and a community that loves and supports them.
This brings us to someone we have more recently gotten to know and think you should too: Shannon Morgan aka @BigGreenEggFoodie on Instagram. Shannon is a Vegetarian who’s married to an Omnivore and as a member of the Big Green Egg Pro Team, she takes on the challenge of using her Egg to cook anything from Chinese to Italian food, smoked soups to egg frittatas. She also does the traditional grilled meats for her family, but her creativity, recipes and tips for how to get the most out of your Big Green Egg are beyond comparison! Her journey is unique and it all started with a carrot hotdog recipe that was so good, Big Green Egg put it on their website!
Tina, Jessica and Shannon have us thinking about the amazing women in our lives that support and inspire us every day. We think about our moms for sure, but we are all blessed to have some of the best sisters, in-laws and friends.
