Tonight's the Night!

Let’s talk about wood!

Night after night, you pull out your cutting board. No matter how much you scrub or sanitize, it still looks dirty with deep, dark scars; stains you can’t identify and it doesn’t quite lay flat on your counter anymore. You try to prepare a mouth-watering meal for your family on top of a surface that couldn’t look more unappetizing.

Night after night, you get frustrated because your knives always seem dull and you struggle to cut food safely. Your cutting board wobbles and for some inexplicable reason your knife keeps moving when it hits the board, sliding and catching in one of the many deep grooves that mar its surface.

Let me guess: you own a long-grain wood cutting board.

Long-grain cutting boards are notorious for warping and cracking - after all, it’s just a few flat planks of wood glued together. As you cut across long-grain wood fibers, they break, leaving grooves that you cut into, again and again, making them deeper and uglier as food and juice get trapped inside; impossible to clean. The long-grain wood fibers resist your knife’s blade, putting pressure on it that causes it to become dull and dangerous.

I’ll let you in on a secret: cutting board manufacturers know all of this. Long-grain cutting boards are cheap to make; again, it’s just a few planks of wood glued together. They will warp, they will groove, they will become unsanitary and unsightly. That’s what they are counting on - they want you to come back and buy another one! They are guaranteeing future sales by selling an inferior quality product.

You deserve better. And tonight’s the night!

It may sound counterintuitive, but at Fifth & Cherry, we believe that you should only have to buy a cutting board once in your lifetime. That’s why we only use end-grain cherry wood and have engineered our cutting boards to last forever. End-grain wood is the most labor-intensive way to build a cutting board, but we feel our 28-step process is worth it to deliver a quality board that you will not only use every day but show off and can hand down to the next generation with pride.

Naturally anti-bacterial and better for your knives, learn more about how our end-grain cherry wood cutting boards are different here. End-grain cherry wood will not get the deep grooves that long-grain boards do, which means your board will continue to look beautiful use after use. You’re proud of the meals you create, you should be proud of the board you’re preparing them on! It’s never too late to buy your last cutting board, so make tonight the night!
